After the war

The armistice between Finland and the Soviet Union got into effect on 4 September 1944. Finland declared war against Germany but submarines were never used against the new enemy. The boats were ordered back to their naval bases.
Vesikko made her last voyage on 11 December 1944 and four days later she lowered her war banner and flag.
In 1962 the activity of submarine veterans saved Vesikko from disaster. She was transferred back to Suomenlinna near her previous base. The restoration was long and difficult. At last on the Navy Day, 9 July 1973, Vesikko was opened to public.
